Agency History: | When Morton McCarver arrived in 1868, he began a campaign to attract settlers and the Northern Pacific Railroad to his project, "Tacoma City". After the arrival of the Northern Pacific Rail Road who established their own town, "New Tacoma" two miles south of Tacoma City, the two merged in 1887. The City of Tacoma was incorporated in 1884 and is the county seat for Pierce County. |
