Agency History: | When settlers from the Oregon Trail arrived, led by Dr. L.H. Goodwin in 1865, the small settlement they established was named "Yakima City" and was incorporated in 1883, and was the first municipality in Yakima County. With the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railway north of the small city in 1884, the new station was named North Yakima. In 1917, North Yakima was changed to Yakima and Yakima City was renamed Union Gap by Washington State Legislature. |
