Description: | With the regular U.S. Army troops recalled to fight the Civil War in the east, soldiers were still needed to man the forts and outposts in Washington Territory. The First Washington Territorial Volunteer Regiment formed, mostly with recruits from the San Francisco area; these soldiers did not fight in any of the Civil War battles. The soldiers’ names are taken from a clothing register and are arranged by company and then by name of soldier. |
