This past weekend I had the opportunity to see a community’s dream fulfilled with the opening of the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle.
The museum is housed in the former Coleman school and is part of a larger Urban Village that includes affordable housing and community space, surrounded by open space. I encourage everyone to visit the museum to learn more about the rich culture of our state and region.
U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, left, and I were a couple of the 3,000+ people on hand for the opening. Above is a photo of us being given a tour by Barbara Earl Thomas, right, curator of the Northwest African American Museum.
Congrats to all who had a hand in making this museum a reality!
