Agency History: | In 1890 when the first steam boat was placed on the Pend Oreille River, a new landing was created for goods sent down from Sandpoint. This new landing was named "Newport" M.C. Kelly. The City of Newport was incorporated in 1903 and is the county seat of Pend Oreille County. |
