Gov. Gregoires statement on D-Day anniversary

For Immediate Release: June 5, 2009

OLYMPIA Gov. Chris Gregoire proclaimed June 6, 2009 D-Day Remembrance Day in Washington State and released the following statement:

Sixty-five years ago, the course of human history was forever altered by the momentous D-Day invasion at Normandy. We now honor the courage and devotion with which the Allied forces fought, bringing freedom to the oppressed and hope to our nation while the eyes of the world watched.

Reflecting with gratitude on a past that was defined by the defense of justice and peace, I urge my fellow citizens to join me in remembering the brave Americans who gave their lives to liberate others.
