Governor Requests SBA Disaster Aid for Snohomish County Apartment Fire

For Immediate Release: August 13, 2010

OLYMPIA Gov. Chris Gregoire today requested the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to approve a Physical Loss Administrative Declaration for Snohomish County residences and businesses affected by the Aug. 8, 2010 fire, which destroyed the Lynn View Apartments.

The declaration can be a big help to the residents and business owners recovering from the effects of the fire, said Gregoire. I will urge the SBA to take prompt action on this request, so all those affected can apply for low-interest loans to obtain much needed personal belongings or working capital for their businesses.

A joint damage assessment by SBA, state and local officials Wednesday identified major damage to 33 residences, minor damage to four residences and minor damage to nine businesses. SBA officials determined the amount of damage would meet its standards for a disaster declaration because other means of financial assistance were not available to the apartment residents and business owners.
