Governor Gregoire Signs Measure to Establish Customized Workforce Training

TACOMA � Governor Chris Gregoire signed legislation at Bates Technical College in Tacoma today. She signed Senate Bill 6326, which establishes the Washington Customized Training Employment Program to provide training assistance to employers locating or expanding in the state.

�Washingtonians deserve an opportunity to upgrade their skills and hold a family-wage job. This innovative partnership between business, post-secondary education and training providers and the state ensures they will have those opportunities,� said Governor Gregoire. �This bill makes it clear that Washington is serious about helping businesses expand and attracting new businesses to the state.�

Governor Gregoire issued a partial veto on Section 5 of House Bill 2973 and Section 9 of House Bill 3127. HB 2973 creates a career and technical high school graduation option for students meeting state academic standards and HB 3127 concerns the center for the improvement of student learning and the education ombudsman.
