Governor asks Department of Transportation and State Patrol to coordinate thorough review with independent experts

OLYMPIA � Governor Chris Gregoire today in a letter to Secretary Doug MacDonald and Chief John Batiste, directed a thorough review of cable median barriers on state highways. The February 13th fatality on I-5 near Marysville has prompted inquiries regarding the effectiveness of cable median barriers, especially in the area of I-5 near Marysville.

�It is critical that we all continue to work together to make investments in the state highway system that enhance safety for Washington citizens,� wrote Governor Gregoire. �I would appreciate your seeking expert independent assistance in the preparation of this report.�
