Dr. Starcevic Cemetery is located in Roslyn, WA, Kittitas County, Washington. To reach this cemetery travel west down Pennsylvania Ave through Roslyn, hang left until you come to Memorial Rd where you turn left. As you enter the cemetery area stay on the road and continue on up to the second road. It is just east of St Barbara Cemetery and west of the Masonic Cemetery. Dr. Starcevic is located at Lat: 47° 13' 15"N, Lon: 121° 00' 10"W, T20N R15E Sec 17. See map.

Dr. Starcevic was an educated man with a PhD. He was also a popular politician in the late 1800's and founded the party for Croatian Rights. Even though he served a jail term for standing up against a foreigner sitting as sovereign in Croatia, he was re-elected by the people to office when he was released.

Many of the headstones display icons and other folk art which was a part of the customs of the area of Yugoslavia these people came from before they chose Roslyn as their new home. This cemetery was filled several years ago and is no longer able to have burials except for ashes placed in urns in a family plot where there is room. This is the reason for the Croatian Cemetery #2. I have not figured out why they call one Dr. Starcevic #1 and the other Croatian #2. They are both owned by the same lodge which is Croatian and called Dr. Starcevic Lodge #56. I also find it spelled Starkevic or Starkevich.

I acquired the information I have presented from my own readings and either the city hall or the cemetery sexton, which might include old records.

I used a digital camera to read this cemetery. Some I had to use my notepad, and some I could not read.

I walked and read this cemetery Aug 20, 2001. As with many of the cemeteries in Roslyn, I found headstones written in the native language of the person buried there. I did my best to decipher at least the name and dates. A few could not be deciphered from aging. Transcribed Oct 13, 2001, last edited Mar 22, 2010.
