A meeting was called for those interested in the Loomis Cemetery on May 30, 1921. Directors were elected and met Jul 7, 1921 to draft the articles of incorporation and had it filed with the secretary of state and county auditor. The sec of state had the articles filed as the Mountain View Cemetery Assn. and were authorized to do business Jul 16, 1921.” “This cemetery had not been cared for properly for many years. In order to start cleaning it up, it was decided to burn off all the overgrowth and debris. This was an unwise decision. The fire destroyed many markers and sources of identification. Now the group is trying to replace all markers, it may be impossible to replace all for lack of records. As I walked through I would see rows of markers saying "Unknown." I will say the association has done a great job in fixing this cemetery up and it is in very good condition now. It is well planned and easy to find your way through it, with much room for new burials.” “I walked and surveyed Mountain View Cemetery Jun 24, 2000, after which I compared my readings with one done by Opal Willms and Jean Cook in 1980. An asterisk * has been placed after any entry from their work, which means there perhaps is no marker. I have acquired new entries from the sexton files in 2012, thanks to Polly Curtis. From these records I was able to add the location to almost all of the entries.” “I used a digital camera for many of the headstone readings in 2000." |
