Introduction |
The Tacoma Creek Cemetery index lists individuals interred at the Tacoma Creek Cemetery located in Pend Oreille County, Washington. See photos. Index information about an individual may include name, birth date, birth place, death date, and names of family members. Index data was compiled by Maggie Rail, a member of the Washington State Cemetery Association who has transcribed over 400 cemeteries since 1993.
Tacoma Creek Cemetery is located at Lat: 48° 23' 22"N, Lon: 117° 19' 00"W, T33N R43E Section 1. There are 12 individuals listed in this index. This index is in English. This index is open for research. Transcribed by Maggie Rail, 1999, last edited Apr 07, 2010. Transcription Notes: “To reach this cemetery, drive north out of Cusick on Hwy 20 for about 3 miles. Watch on your left for Tacoma Creek Road and turn west. You will find the cemetery within 1/3 of a mile on your right, straight up the hill, which is not an easy climb.” “I said you will find, but seriously, you must climb the hill to find it. It is not visible from the road below, and you may doubt me before you do find it. I discovered an easier, but longer, route back down. I found fewer than the 20 headstones I was told should be there.” “One of the granddaughters of the Cusicks, who lived nearby helped me with two names. Later Helen Bond, another granddaughter, who also lives in Cusick, gave me more information for those where no headstone remains. Weather, aging and little or no care have taken many of the stones.” I have been asked for the records of the Locke Cemetery. To my knowledge and that of all the residents in the area, there never was a cemetery there. They say the Tacoma Creek Cemetery was the main burial site by all the pioneers in those early days. I am sure there are many missing names in my transcription.” “There were still 6-7 broken down fences, which were used for enclosures. Some of the remaining headstones were no longer readable. I completed my survey of this cemetery on Aug 09, 1999.” |
