Notes from transcriber Maggie Rail, Aug 26, 2006, last edited Nov 30, 2007: “To reach this cemetery from State Hwy 270 near Pullman take the Wawawai Road-Pullman Road west then south for approx 8 mi, turning left or east onto MacHatley Road. This dirt road winds around for over a mile. Hang right and you will come right up to the cemetery, which sits atop small hill.” “The cemetery was established in Feb of 1889. The first listed burial is Edward Paullus on Jan 09, 1889, which means it was used for burial before it was officially recorded.” “Hatley Cemetery is still in use today. It is open to the public to visit, but it is a family cemetery, meaning one must be a member of the family to be buried here.” “Everett Hatley has been maintaining it, since he is living on the property. He was ill when I was there and said he had not been able to mow as often as he liked. I found it very well maintained.” “The locations may not be totally accurate, but it is hoped they can help to locate. Row 1 is at the right as you enter. Many of the burials are toward the back right-hand corner. Listings followed by an asterisk * are those I have no photo of and the record came from a previous reading by Norman & Rose Hatley.” “I visited and read this cemetery on Jul 11, 2006, using my digital camera. I have a digital photo of all existing stones.” |
