Notes from transcriber Maggie Rail, Sep 06, 2003, last edited Feb 11, 2011: “From downtown Uniontown, turn east onto Montgomery St, then left to Denison St and turn right, continuing on up the hill. It is across the road to the right, from Saint Boniface Cemetery and just past the Memorial Park.” “In the early 1800s, Thomas Montgomery donated 2 parcels of land to be used as cemeteries, one for the Catholics and the other for the Protestants. This transcription is the parcel which was donated to be used by the Protestants. At the present time a board functions to handle both.” “When I was there they were working on bringing back this burial site, appears to be getting little care. I am quite sure I could have missed markers, if they were small, under the dry, tall grass. It was mowed down where they could see the larger markers, but much area was untended.” “I have since learned that the cemetery has always been maintained by volunteers. Until about two years ago the price of a cemetery plot was still $15.00. Henry Stout and Tom Faerber have both been mowing and doing general upkeep for many years. Henry took care of the books for many years, until Jackie took them. To obtain further information one can contact the current sexton, Jackie Masson, 509-229-3436.” ” I transcribed from all the headstone readings I could find, acquired when I walked and read this cemetery on Sep 01, 2003. I used my digital camera and have photos of all without and asterisk. Those with and asterisk * came from a reading done in 1973 by Wes and Carrie Lartigue.” |
