This town dates back to the wagon train days when the area was still a territory, which is before Washington was a state. The earliest death date listed below is 1879. There may be earlier burials with no markers remaining.” “The cemetery is situated in the corner of four sections, southeast of town. I found it to be in excellent condition.” “There is a monument listing the drowning(s) in the Rock Lake. I did not list as they are listed in the Eaton Cemetery which is sometimes called Rock Lake Cemetery, in Ewan, Whitman County WA.” “The following is engraved on the Lucy Wiley Hollingsworth stone: Lucy Wiley Hollingsworth Bequest: In memory of my beloved husband, William Wiley, and of myself, my dear sister Mary Ellen, my mother Elizabeth and my brothers, Joseph and Henry, I give and bequeath unto the Pine City Cemetery Association (organized in Whitman County for charitable purposes) 316 acres of farmland in Whitman County that I purchased from my brother Henry's estate. The purpose of this device it to provide funds from the proceeds of crops raised on above land in order that the Pine City Cemetery Association will be assured of perpetual existence in providing annually the means of beautifying and care of the entire above named cemetery.” “There are sections listed as I determined them to be. I am not sure what the cemetery calls them. The rows may be incorrect, but I did my best. They should at least be close to the area. I have added an asterisk * after old sexton records I found no stone or marker for. A few from a recent obit.” “I walked and read this cemetery on Jul 20 & Aug 01, 2010. This includes all existing and legible stones and markers in this cemetery at that time, plus a few obits I found since the date I walked the cemetery. I have photos of all.” |
