Notes from transcriber Maggie Rail, Sep 30, 2009, last edited Dec 11, 2009: “Just past mile post 245 on Hwy 395, turn right across the Kettle River, then left on east side of Kettle River continue for three miles. Turn right onto a road up a steep slope. ” “This is a very difficult cemetery to find as it is on private property and not maintained. It is off the Kettle River Road, about two miles south of the Napoleon Bridge. The town of Napoleon is nonexistent today but in the 1890s it was named for the Napoleon Mine.” “Cemetery owned and maintained by the Green Mountain Cemetery Association. Recorded in Stevens County Tax#2 book, p 163, in 1926. The cemetery tract is 300' long north-south, 150' wide, east-west. Some refer to this as the Boyds Cemetery and also Napoleon Cemetery. Land for this cemetery was donated by H. H. Herr.” “In 2002 when this record was made the cemetery was overgrown and in need of care. Many grave markers are all but gone. It has no sign for the cemetery.” “I acquired information from Keith Fine on Sep 24, 2009 for this cemetery. These are based upon stones that were readable and from sexton records. I personally made two tries to find this cemetery, unsuccessfully, so I am excited to have these records to share. If anyone knows of a name missing here, I would be happy to add if you have proof. There is more than one unmarked grave.” |
