Notes from transcriber Maggie Rail, 1999: “To reach this grave take exit 272 from I-90 south to Medical Lake Rd., then west on Granite Lake Rd. It is 2 1/2 miles from Four Lakes to the McMillan Ranch. The grave can be seen in a field south of the house on the east side of the road. T24N R41E Section 33 Transcribed from the book by Ann Roberts.” “On Jan 03, 1872 a girl was born to Wilbur and Amelia Bassett, in a little cabin on the north side of the river, near the present Post St. Bridge. She was the first All-white child born in Spokane Falls Territory. That year they all moved to farmland east of Granite Lake. They built a cabin next to a spring and a pond. On Jul 04, 1874 at the age of 2 yr 6mo. Minnie drowned in the pond. She was buried about 300 feet south of the house, on a rise in the field. Others were said to be buried there. The grave is now on the McMillan Ranch on Granite Lake Rd. The grave in closure can be seen from the road. “ |
