Resthaven cemetery adjoins Evergreen cemetery, which lies to the north, both facing Market.” “I have spent much time locating this cemetery. On Jun 17, 1999, at last I found it and did a survey of the cemetery. It was disappointing to find most of the headstones gone.” “At the entrance a recent monument has been erected. It states "A Tribute to The Old Age Pension League", beside which is an American flag on a flagpole waving over the weeded area. Sort of sad, yet gives one a good feeling that someone cares.” “The cemetery appears to cover an acre or two, difficult to tell. One thing I noticed, I kept sinking an inch or so into the ground as I walked about, which got my attention. Most likely gophers working the area, plus the graves sinking. It is highly weeded around the few remaining headstones with evergreen trees at the perimeter.” “I continued to search for some record of this cemetery. In 2005 I finally found a listing that was from the books of H.H. Hill who was the sexton for this burial site. It appears that it was not used for very long. The records started in 1939 and went to 1950, containing only burial dates. Entries which have more information have headstones in the cemetery. Almost all have the burial location in the cemetery.” “This cemetery might be considered a part of Evergreen Cemetery, but it is laid out different and was owned by the IOOF at one time. I found it listed at the library stating that it was abandoned in the 1960s. It still sits abandoned, and is owned by the same people who own and neglect Evergreen Cemetery. That being the Vada R. Hoblin Trust, 510 Wilshire Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89110-4149.” |
