These records document Marriage Returns filed with the Whitman County Auditor’s office, 1889-1939, with two records from 1943 and one record from 1944.

This document records statistical information on the couples who married. Marriage returns generally include the couple’s names, ages, race, number of marriages, birthplace, occupation, and parent’s names and birthplaces. Often the marriage return was filled out by the officiant and mailed back to the local county auditor’s office with the completed marriage certificate.

Agency History: Whitman County was formed in 1871 from part of Stevens County and named after Dr. Marcus Whitman. It is located in the southeast part of the state and Colfax is the county seat.
