Continue for about 2½ miles to Collins Road. The cemetery lies on the right side of Elk-to-Hwy Rd.” “Located about 1/2 mi. west of the town of Elk, WA. Plat book S. page 10, in the Spokane County Court House says - NW corner of NE 1/4 of Sec. 18 Twp 29N R 44E, containing 4 acres. The cemetery was dedicated Apr 11, 1921.” “I first transcribed listings from "Spokane County Rural Cemeteries" vol. 3, pub. 1963 by EWGS. I have now read this cemetery and added my readings to this first account of Elk Cemetery #1. I walked the cemetery on Jul 15, 1999 which included about 297 additional names. Up to date records from the current Elk Cemetery Association were unable to be obtained. I again visited in the summer of 2002 and several times since. “ “This cemetery is still used and well maintained, however it is not a perpetual care cemetery. The day I read it the first time, they were making plans for a burial the next day. I do not have locations on all of the burials. Additions many times are from obits. “ |
