To reach this cemetery drive southwest out of Cheney WA on Hwy 904. Turn left or south onto Lance Hill Road and continue for 8 miles. There will be a Red Barn on the left and a road that turns very fast up the hill on your right to the cemetery. This cemetery was left unattended for many years. One day Alice Mill made it her personal project to revive it starting in the 1950s. Through her efforts in June of 1953 the Lance Hill Cemetery Association was formed. By the 1970s it was cleaned up and once again people began to use it. In 1975 it became a non profit organization. The land was previously donated by the Hatfield family. I walked this cemetery on Apr 14, 1999 and combined my readings with the current sexton files taken care of by Ron Mill. His mother was the previous and only sexton prior to Ron. No sexton files existed previous to 1970 except for reading of the headstones and a few added from obits or death certificates. I returned to the cemetery on Jul 16, 2005, using a digital camera. Entries followed by an asterisk * are those I do not have a photo of. This means they no longer have a stone or marker, were illegible, or were entries entered after Jul 16, 2005, which are listings provided to me by Ron Mill. Contact me if interested in a photo. - Maggie Rail Legend: c/o = child of d/o = dau of h/o = husband of m/o = mother of s/o = son of sss = shared surname stone s/w = stone with w/o = wife of Earliest death recorded - 1889 Most recent death recorded - 2015 |
