Introduction |
Mica Creek Cemetery Spokane County, Washington Harvard & Stoughton Rds Lat: 47° 31' 18"N, Lon: 117° 06' 34"W T23N R45E Sec 4 Transcribed by Maggie Rail, © Dec 28, 1999, last edited Nov 30, 2016 [mrail@asisna.com]. Total records = 152. To reach this cemetery, driving south from Freeman WA on Hwy 27, in about 1/2 mile, turn left or east onto Elder Road. Continue for about 2 miles. Turn north onto Harvard Road for about a mile. The cemetery is on the left side of the road at the intersection with Stoughton Road. The entrance sign says Mica Creek Cemetery, 1905. There are burials in here in the late 1890s. In church records it says that the cemetery was officially a cemetery in 1904. They began work in 1905 on the church, which was nearby. (The original Warranty Deed for this cemetery, says it was established Jun 01, 1900 and recorded Jun 15, 1900 and I find a death as early as 1896.) This is a small cemetery, with burials being mostly for families of Norwegian heritage. I have been unsuccessful in obtaining old records to discover if there are any buried without a marker. The cemetery is not perpetual care, so many of the stones are simply covered with soil. I am unable at this time to find out who has the records for this, it was the Colliers, but their phone had been disconnected last time I tried. In 1999 I walked and read this cemetery with my daughter Vicki Morris. I have since returned to the cemetery and read it once again using a camera on Aug 25, 2002. I have a photo of all existing headstones at that time. - Maggie Rail Abbreviations: s/w = stone with c/o = child of h/o = husband of w/o = wife of b. = born m. = married s/o = son of d/o = dau of sss = shared surname stone Earliest burial listed - 1888 Earliest birth listed - 1820 Last burial listed - 2011 |
