Marshall Cemetery Marshall, Spokane County, Washington Lat: 47° 34' 21"N, Lon: 117° 31' 49"W T24N R42E Section 17 Melville Rd, Marshall WA Al Birdsell, contact 509-624-2468 Transcribed by Maggie Rail, © Sep 27, 2013, last edited Nov 30, 2016 [mrail@asisna.com]. Total records = 1,029. To visit cemetery take exit 272, off of I-90. Driving south on I-90 turn east or left after exiting the freeway. If driving north turn right on Exit 272 and continue on Hayford Road for about 1 mile, turn left on Melville. Go 1.6 miles, cemetery is on the right. This area has built up with so many new homes it is difficult to spot the roads. Marshall Cemetery was established in 1886. Some records have been lost. I could see that there are over 100 unmarked graves. Some of these are cement, others are wooden crosses with nothing written on any of them. A few had a FH marker beside the cross but most were unmarked. It appeared that many families had their own section or plot. I could not figure out how to label them with locations. The entries with locations listed at the end of the entry came from an older copy of the sexton files which was up to 1959 and was copied by Lee Patchen. Many records of this cemetery have been lost. Burials after 1959 have no location listed. A few names I found in the state digital archives and a few from a previous reading done by Deloris Biegler in 2000. I have added a symbol to the end of each of these entries. Much work has been done to improve this cemetery, new signs, posts marking the entry all donated by families. I found the cemetery in very good condition. Someone is taking very good care of it at present. I do not know who but I believe Al Birdsell has a large part in it. I used a digital camera to record each of the stones or markers I found when I walked this cemetery on Sep 27, 2013. Those without a symbol are those I found in the cemetery with markers or stones.
