Description:	This collection includes 23 portraits of Department of Revenue directors taken between 1925 and 2015. These images were collected by the Department of Revenue. Contemporary portraits will be added to this collection as part of an ongoing project between the Department of Revenue and Washington State Archives.

Agency History:	The Department of Revenue was created in 1965, replacing the Washington State Tax Commission which had existed since 1925. Prior to 1925 tax functions had been under three agencies: the State Board of Tax Commissioners (1905-17), the State Tax Commissioner (1917-21), and the Department of Taxation and Examination (1921-25). The Tax Commissioners were also ex-officio members of the Board of Equalization.
