Description: | This volume captured voter registration signatures for residents of Olympia during the years 1872-1874, 1877-1879, 1881-1886, and 1889-1890 (very few). It also includes ward numbers. There are 77 pages of signatures in this volume, which measures 12.25 x 8 inches.
In 1883, a Territorial Legislature bill was passed in Washington that temporarily extended suffrage to women. This volume includes the signatures of Olympia women who registered to vote from 1883 through 1886. Four pages in this volume include a register of dog licenses, and three include unrelated lists. These pages are not indexed on the Digital Archives. Blank pages in this volume have not been digitized. |

Agency History: | Named in 1853 at the suggestion of Colonel Isaac Ebey, the first recorded visit to the area by European settlers was in 1792 when Peter Puget and the British Vancouver Expedition charted the site. The City of Olympia was incorporated in 1859 and is the county seat of Thurston County. Olympia is also the capital of the State of Washington. |
