Description: | This collection includes 656 plat maps made by various surveyors between 1869 and 1952. Plats are maps drawn to scale that show formally named subdivisions of land that are more or less uniformly segregated into lots, which may be sold or transferred to different owners as individual parcels. In addition to the maps, plat recordings generally include the name of the plat, dedication, covenants, restrictions, notes, legal description, surveyor’s certificate, Auditor's certificate, date recorded, and filing number. Agency History: | The Oregon Territorial Legislature created Thurston County in 1852 and it is named for Samuel R. Thurston who was Oregon Territory's first delegate to Congress. The State Capital, Olympia, is located in Thurston County. |
