Agency History: | Named after the Walla Walla tribe, the town was established near the site of Fort Nez Perce, established in 1818. In 1856, the fort was renamed Fort Walla Walla, and by 1859 many settlers had begun to move into the region for mining and farming. The City of Walla Walla was incorporated in 1862 and is the county seat of Walla Walla County. |
