Agency History: | A Capitol Building Commission was established by the legislature in 1893 to manage the State Capitol Land Grant and to oversee the construction of capitol buildings and grounds. In 1894, its name was changed to the Capitol Commission, and then to the Capitol Committee in 1921. The Committee performs duties prescribed by law with respect to improvement of existing capitol buildings and the construction of new buildings in the capitol complex. While the Committee was originally responsible for the management of Capitol Building Land Grants and its resources, this function was transferred to the Department of Natural Resources in 1957. |
