Description: | This scrapbook was created by former Washington Secretary of State, Ralph Munro, between 1964 and 1967, while he was a student at Western Washington State College (now Western Washington University). There are 136 pages in this scrapbook and 15 loose items. The cover measures 14.75 x 12 inches, and each page measures 14 x 11.75 inches. The scrapbook includes calendars, cards, correspondence, invitations, leaflets, newspaper pages and clippings, pamphlets, photographs, and postcards on various topics including college tuition and facilities, state government, communism, student life, special education, and volunteering.
The scrapbook can be browsed page by page. Pages are numbered as they fall in the scrapbook (ex: “p003” is page 3 of the scrapbook). Some pages include overlapping or folded items. In these cases, the pages are imaged so that each item can be seen. Items on a page are named a, b, c, and so on (ex: “p003_a” is item a on page 3 of the scrapbook). Some items include multiple pages, such as brochures, booklets, and periodicals. These items are given an item name, followed by a page number (ex: “p003_a_08” is page 8 of item a on page 3 of the scrapbook). |

Agency History: | Ralph Munro was elected Washington's 13th Secretary of State in 1980 and served five terms. Secretary Munro was born in 1943 in Seattle, Washington, and spent his childhood on Bainbridge Island. He attended Western Washington University and received his B.A. in Education and Political Science. Governor Dan Evans appointed him as the State's first volunteer coordinator in 1969. He currently resides on Triple Creek Farm in Thurston County and remains active in election reform and international trade issues. |
