Introduction |
This database is an index to the Stratford Cemetery located in Stratford, Grant County, Washington. There are 197 names listed. Location: Lat: 47° 25' 53"N, Lon: 119° 17' 52"W T22N R29E Sec 2 The cemetery sits out on the prairie at the corner of County Hwy 28 and 23 NE. This is just a short distance from the community of Stratford, which is further south on 23NE. Transcription Notes A warranty deed was started on Apr 27, 1909, by Charles and Mary Tiehacek, donating parcels 17-1238 in 2-Ac 1N-NW-NW-NW-S1- T22 R29, just off Highway 28 in Grant County, as land for a cemetery, which was recorded on Nov 16, 1911. At first the records were handled by Alfred Simmons up to the incorporation of the Stratford Cemetery Association in 1955. The cemetery looks rather barren, but appears to be well maintained. The land is bare of all vegetation, because they have no ability to provide water, and if they did, there are no resources to maintain it. Nicholes Funeral Home is on many of the markers, some I could not read. Many of the markers were small FH markers set in cement. Some had no dates. I am trying to acquire these missing dates. What is in parenthesis was not on the stone, and added from another source. Walked and read this cemetery on Sep 28, 2003. I have added additional names and locations from the sexton files. - Maggie Rail Legend: b = born c/o = child of FH = Funeral Home h/o = husband of mm/by = metal marker by s/by = stone by s/o = son of s/w = stone with w/o = wife of |
