A low metal fence surrounds the bandstand, including a gate with a sign reading "KEEP OUT." "State of Wash. / W. E. R. A. / Project 17-F5-69 / Sep. 2 1934 - Neg. No 475 / Brass Band playing at Volunteer park" -- handwritten in lower left-hand corner on recto. "Concert Orchestra / (44) The Concert Orchestra and Band project was started on October 26, 1934, and closed on February 1, 1935. As per schedule, the orchestra played in concert three or four times each week and the band once and occasionally twice the same period. The musicians were paid $1.20 per hour on a budgetary basis which did not exceed $50.00 per month." -- on typewritten note attached to verso. |
