Locke names Yakima 'Capital for a Day'
OLYMPIA - The state capitol will move to the east side of the Cascades on Wednesday, July 15, as Gov. Gary Locke today announced Yakima will be the "Capital for a Day."
The event is designed to take state government on the road to communities throughout the state. Locke and his cabinet directors will spend the day in Yakima to hold a series of meetings and events to listen and learn about the issues residents are concerned about in the Yakima area.
"We have had tremendous success hosting 'Capital for a Day' events in other communities around the state," said Locke. "This is a great opportunity to hear first-hand the concerns of residents who live in these communities."
Locke has held "Capital for a Day" events in Vancouver, Spokane and Everett.
The governor is scheduled to speak at the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce luncheon, meet with Washington Reading Corps students and tutors, and hold a town hall meeting. Full details of the governor's schedule will be announced next month.
