On Veterans Day we honor the personal sacrifices of the brave Washingtonians who have served in the armed forces. Their courage and commitment are admirable. We pause, too, to honor the memory of the courageous men and women who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and pray for their families and friends.

This weekend I recognized Veterans Day at a ceremony in Auburn. I thanked the nearly 2,400 Washington soldiers and servicemen and -women deployed around the world. I was humbled to offer my respect to those who are now making the greatest sacrifice for our country.

Maj. Gen. Timothy Lowenberg, Washington state’s adjutant general, joins me in honoring those who have safeguarded the principles of freedom that we stand for. The general also extends his heartfelt thanks to deployed members of the Washington National Guard, their families and their employers.

The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs offers a host of services on issues associated with veterans benefits and entitlements.
