This week I met with key business, labor and education leaders from across the state for a discussion on economic recovery strategies. We have no time to waste — insight from this diverse and talented group of business advisers can help lift our state’s economy.

I convened these leaders to participate in a frank discussion and agree to common principles as we begin to shape our state’s economic future. Recommendations from this meeting will be vetted to see what is possible for incorporation into the state stimulus package that will not only maintain but expand Washington’s competitive business edge.

We agreed to work collaboratively to position Washington so we will fully benefit from our unique economic strengths by expanding exports and investing in technology and cutting-edge innovations.

We all must make the sacrifices needed now to weather this recession and to plan for the best possible recovery. I have absolute confidence that — by working together — we will get through these challenging times and be better positioned for long-term economic stability.
