Across the nation, parents today are taking part in a wonderful opportunity to encourage their children to think about their dreams. Yet with school districts in Washington administering the Washington Assessment of Student Learning, taking part in the national celebration of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day may be challenging for many of our families.

With this in mind, I have proclaimed June 25, 2009, as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day here in Washington. This will provide parents a second opportunity to share their careers with their children without having to interfere with their school work.

By bringing your child to work with you, you open their eyes to so many opportunities and start them thinking about their own careers. You also show them why its important to get a good education as they see how the subjects they study in school are applied in their everyday lives. Please consider bringing your child to work with you if your workplace is observing this occasion.
