Governor Gregoire Announces Boards and Commissions Appointments

Citizens appointed from Bremerton, Ferndale, Seattle, Shelton and Spokane

OLYMPIA - Governor Chris Gregoire today announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Board of Trustees for the State School for the Deaf
Charlotte Parsley of Spokane has been appointed to a term effective March 16, 2007, ending July 1, 2011. Ms. Parsley is the executive director of the Eastern Washington Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the president of the Washington State Association of the Deaf.

The Board serves the educational needs of hearing-impaired students. It develops a comprehensive curriculum to maximize and develop students� skills to live, work and be capable, contributing, independent citizens.

Governor�s Industrial Safety and Health Board
Dale Armstrong of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective March 16, 2007, ending December 31, 2008. Mr. Armstrong is the safety and environmental services manager with the Boeing Co. Integrated Defense Systems and, since 1999, has served on the aerospace panel of the Governor's Safety and Health Conference.

Donna (Lyn) Hofland of Bremerton has been appointed to a term effective March 16, 2007, ending December 31, 2008. Ms. Hofland is a supply officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs, working at the Washington Veterans Home. She works on workplace safety issues within the Washington Federation of State Employees.

The Board is a non-profit organization that works to prevent industrial injuries and occupational diseases among employees. They advise the Governor on how to promote the efficient, safe, healthful and productive operation of industries within Washington.

Jail Industries Board
Sean Morrow of Spokane has been reappointed to a term effective March 16, 2007, ending February 15, 2010. Mr. Morrow is a network technician for Qwest Communications and the president of Communications Workers of America Local 7818.

The Board offers advice to cities and counties in developing, promoting and implementing consistent, safe and efficient offender work programs.

Sentencing Guidelines Commission
Timothy Killian of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective March 16, 2007, ending August 2, 2009. Mr. Killian runs eVenture Communications, a political consulting and strategic communications firm. He is the co-founder and CEO of MorePerfect.org, an online forum for users to discuss, create and edit public policy ideas.

Lynda Ring Erickson of Shelton has been appointed to a term effective March 16, 2007, ending August 2, 2009. Ms. Erickson is a Mason County commissioner and serves on the board of directors for Mason County Literacy. She is involved with the Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization and the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency.

The Commission evaluates state sentencing policy and practices for the adult criminal justice system and the juvenile justice system. They also study and recommend modifications of the criminal code to the Governor and the Legislature.

Criminal Justice Training Commission
Michael Johnston of Ferndale has been appointed to a term effective March 26, 2007, ending June 30, 2011. Mr. Johnston is patrol sergeant with the Bellingham Police Department and an instructor in the administration justice program at Whatcom Community College. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force where he was a law enforcement specialist and is the chair for the Board of Law Enforcement Training, Standards and Education.

The Commission develops and implements training standards and programs for criminal justice personnel and establishes physical, mental and moral fitness standards for recruiting criminal justice personnel.

Washington Higher Education Facilities Authority
Ellen Taussig of Seattle has been appointed to a term effective March 23, 2007, ending March 26, 2011. Ms. Taussig is one of the founding teachers and the current head of The Northwest School. She served on the Washington Graduation Requirements Commission and is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

The Board authorizes the issuance of tax-exempt bonds and loans proceeds to private, nonprofit institutions of higher education. Bonds sold by the Authority are not obligations of the state of Washington.
